A simple 'natural cycle'
Producers
Producers utilise energy from sunlight, oxygen from the air, water, and minerals & nutrients from soil to create food for all living things.
Decomposers
These fellows participate in the process of tidying up the remains when a living thing dies, returning nutrients to the soil. It is true to say that these are also consumers (hence the blue shadow under the box below), their diet just includes some alternative tastes!
Consumers
These guys consume things - ranging from the basic foodstuff created by the producers to... each other! At some point, each living thing dies.
