How do you identify an amphibian.

Amphibians….

  • Have soft, moist skins through which they can breathe when underwater and at rest

  • They lay many soft-shelled eggs

  • They do not look after their young

  • They go through a life cycle called metamorphosis hatching from an egg to a tadpole form with gills and then changing gradually into the adult form with lungs.

  • They spend at least part of their life in water and always come back to water to lay their eggs

  • They have webbed feet for swimming

  • Their skin is usually smooth and with a slimy mucus covering
